Prototype: Demon’s Deck
Personal project
Card-based shoot’em up roguelite
Demon’s Deck was developed to bring a fresh twist to the roguelite shoot ‘em up genre by combining it with a strategic card-based system. We drew inspiration from Vampire Survivors, but aimed to add new layers of strategy through cards that shape each round. Facing off against the demon, players react to randomly drawn cards that enhance enemies, while they must choose cards that offer weapons, upgrades, and consumables. A round is won by sacrificing a set number of monsters summoned by the demon.
Each mechanic was designed to feel cohesive with the game world, enhancing immersion. The minimalist black, white, and red palette was chosen to amplify the dark, demonic tone, while the pixel art keeps the visuals simple yet effective. Some art assets were sourced from third parties, while others were created and modified with Aseprite to fit the game’s aesthetic.
Demon’s Deck was developed in Unity in collaboration with a teammate. The project is currently paused indefinitely, with the possibility of future continuation under consideration.
